BENEFITS OF GIVING REWARD OF SALAWAT TO OTHERS

A woman came to Sayyidina Hassan Al-Basri (rahimahullah) and said,

My daughter passed away and now I wish to see her in my dream.

Sayyidina Hassan (rahimahullah) told her,

Offer four rakat Nafl after Isha and in each rakaat recite Surah At-Takasur (102). Then go to sleep while reciting Salawaat upon RasulAllah ﷺ until you fall asleep.

The woman did so and narrated the dream to Sayyidina Hassan (rahimahullah) the next day. She said,

I saw her in a bad state. She was wearing dirty robes. Her hands were tied and there were chains of fire around her feet.

Sayyidina Hassan (rahimahullah) asked her to give sadqa and hope that her daughter’s affliction gets lessened. The following night Sayyidina Hassan (rahimahullah) himself saw a dream wherein he was in Jannah and there was a beautiful young girl on a throne dressed in magnificent clothes. She told him that she was the daughter of the woman who had visited him. Sayyidina Hassan (rahimahullah) told her,

But your mother told me that she saw you in a bad state.

The girl said,

Indeed what she said was true. We were 70,000 souls who were afflicted with the torture of the grave until a pious person passed by us. He recited Salawat upon RasulAllah ﷺ dedicated it’s sawaab to us. And Allah accepted it in such a manner that we were freed from our tribulations and what you see now is due to barakah of that Durood Shareef.

Salawat’us-Sharifah

In the Holy Quran, Allah, glory unto Him, vows by the Prophet’s life. Mentioning his great name next to His Own, the Almighty has required belief in his prophethood, as a precondition of being a worthy servant. Allah took offense in others raising their voices in the presence of His Beloved , cautioning against calling out his name like any other. What’s more, the Almighty has stated that He and the angels send their numerous blessings, salawat’us-sharifah, to the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), ordering his ummah amply do the same.

In accordance with the ayah:

“Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O Believers! Send your blessings on him and salute him with all respect,” (al-Ahzab, 56) sending salawat’us-sharifah to that Great Being is a duty for all Believers, laid down by Allah, glory unto Him.

Narrating the following is Ubayy ibn Kab (RadiAllahu Anhu):

“A third of the night had passed when the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) awoke from his sleep and said:

‘Remember Allah, people, remember Allah! Blown will be the first horn that will rattle the ground. Then will follow the second. Death will arrive with all its intensity; death will arrive with all its intensity…’

‘I send lots of salawat’us-sharifah, Messenger of Allah’,said I. ‘How often should I do it?’

‘As much as you wish’ he (Peace and blessings be upon him) replied.

‘Would it be right if I spared a quarter of my prayer for it?’ I again inquired.

‘Spare as much from it as you wish’, he advised. ‘But it will be better for you if you spared more.’

‘Then I will spare half ’, I proposed.

‘As you wish…But better if you spared more’, said he.

‘How about I spared two-thirds then?’

‘As you wish… But better if you spared more’.

‘How would it be then if I send salawat’us-sharifah in the entire time I spare for prayer?’ I then asked.

‘If you do’, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, ‘then Allah will rid you of all your troubles and forgive your sins.’” (Tirmidhi, Qiyamat, 23/2457)

Devotees of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), therefore, embrace the salawat’us-sharifah as a continuous chant, for they are means of increasing the love of the Prophet in a Believer’s heart. Appropriately following the Blessed Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and making the most of the quintessential example he has provided doubtless comes through a grasp of the reality of the Quran and Sunnah, which in turn is possible only by virtue of drawing closer to the exemplary morals of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and delving into the depths of his heart.

No mortal has succeeded in describing his (peace and blessings be upon him) essential attribute; his towering morals and disposition has eluded comprehension. The wise, those spiritual sultans, even the great Jibril (Alaihi Salaam), have all accepted being on his path as the greatest honor, begging by his door as the most indefinable bliss.

On another note, according to the manners of prayer advised by Islam, all prayers begin and end with thanking Allah, glory unto Him, and sending blessings to the Blessed Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). There is an established conviction that Allah, glory unto Him, never turns down a salawat’us-sharifah, which, in essence, is a prayer and plea to the Almighty; the precise reason as to why prayers are adorned with it, both in the start and in the end. That is to say, squeezing in personal prayers amid two, whose acceptances are highly expected, is to ensure their acceptance as well.

“A prayer is left hanging between the earth and the skies,” states Omar  “and is not raised to Allah until blessings are sent to the Messenger of Allah .” (Tirmidhi, Witr, 21/486)

Therefore do not forget sending your blessings and peace to him (peace and blessings be upon him)…for you too stand in need of his intercession in the darkest of hours!

We need to realize that prayer upon the Prophetﷺ is a ladder and means of [spiritual] ascent to arrive unto Allah. That is because sending prayers upon himﷺ frequently engenders the Prophet’s love, and the Prophet’s love engenders Allah’s love, and Allah’s love for the servant attracts the servant to the Divine Presence—with or without an intermediary.

Countless and choicest Blessings on our Beloved Holy Prophet (May peace and blessings be upon him) and his holy offsprings and companions.

The intercessor of sinners, the friend of the strangers, The Mercy for the Worlds,

The rest of those who burn with love, the goal of those who yearn,

The sun of knowers, the lamp of travellers, The light of Those Brought Near,

The friend of the poor and destitute, The master of Humans and Jinn, The Prophet of the Two Sanctuaries,

The Imam of the Two Qiblas, Our Means in the Two Abodes, The Owner of Qaba Qawsayn,

The Beloved of the Lord of the Two Easts and the Two Wests,

The grandfather of al-Hasan and al-Husayn,

Our patron and the patron of Humans and Jinn: Abu al-Qasim MUHAMMAD Son of `Abd Allah,

A light from the light of Allah.

O you who yearn for the light of his beauty, Send blessings and utmost greetings of peace Upon him and upon his Family

How to find a Murshid or Sheykh?

Shaykh Al-Sayyid Muhammad al- Alawi al- Maliki (rahmatullah ta’ala alayh) was asked by someone: when you do not have a Shaykh who can guide you to Allah, how do you find a Shaykh? The great Shaykh advised that if someone takes to the Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ then this is his or her Shaykh. The Salawat will guide him to his Shaykh who will guide him to Allah and will grant him salvation on the day of judgement.

 

To recite Durood/Salawat before and after Adhan

1. Some people say that it is Bid’ah (innovation) to read the Durood Shareef before and after the Azaan.

2. The Ahle Sunnah Wal Jama’at believes that it is permissible to recite the Durood Shareef before and after the Azaan. This is a current practice in many of the Arab countries.

3. The following Quranic verse commands us to send Durood and Salaam upon the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and no specified time has been set aside for this. Allah Ta’ala says: “O ye who Believe! Send Durood and Salaams upon him in abundance.” (Part 22, Ruku 4)

4. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said that when we hear the voice of the Mu’azzin, we should repeat whatever he has said and then send Durood Shareef upon him. He said that the person who sends one Durood upon him, Allah Ta’ala will send ten mercies upon that person. (Sahih Muslim, Al-Qaulul Badi) In this Hadith Shareef, proof is found here that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) asked us to recite the Durood Shareef after the Azaan.

5. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: “If, when performing any good deed you do not commence with the praise of Allah and send Durood upon me, then that deed is empty of blessings.” (Al Jaame Sagheer) Which Muslim is there who does not consider the Azaan to be a good deed?

6. In fact it was Salahud’deen Ayubi (radi Allahu anhu) who gave the command of Durood Shareef to be recited before and after the Azaan. Hazrat Salahud’deen Ayubi (radi Allahu anhu) was a very great and pious King who liberated the Baitul Muqaddas. Great Muhaqiqeen and Muhaditheen made Du’as for him.

7. Hazrat Qaazi Iyaz (radi Allahu anhu) said that it is permissible to read Durood Shareef at the time of Azaan. He says, “And from among the occassions on which Durood should be sent, one of them is at the time of remembering him (Prophet Muhammad sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), when taking or writing his blessed name or at the time of Azaan.” (Shifa Shareef)

8. Hazrat Mulla Ali Qaari (radi Allahu anhu) in his book “Fathul Mueen” says that Durood should not only be recited before Azaan, but also before the Iqaamah.

9. Sheikh Kabeer Bakari (radi Allahu anhu) has stated that it is desirable to recite Salaatus Salaam before the Azaan and the Iqaamah.

10. Thus, to recite Durood Shareef before and after the Azaan is totally permissible and those who follow this are the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jama’at.

Not a day goes by without seventy thousand angels descending upon the Rawdha of the Prophet ﷺ, surrounding him and sending salawat upon him until night falls. When they ascend another such group of angels take their place and do the same; until when the earth splits open before him ﷺ, he comes out with 70,000 angels in procession around him.

Benefits of Salawat

Durood is a sure means of Allah Ta’ala granting blessings, peace, prosperity and favours of great magnitude on one who recites Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). The reciter of Durood Shareef receives all the benefits in this world and utmost gain in the next world with addition to the love of the Holy Prophet (salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).
